Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of every child in our school. It supports pupils with profound and multiple learning needs, while also challenging and stretching highly able pupils in our mainstream classes. We provide engaging and meaningful learning pathways that spark curiosity, build understanding, and help all children develop and master important skills they will need in the future.

Pathway One - The Engagement Curriculum

Our Pathway One curriculum is based on the Engagement Model and focuses on helping children develop the skills to explore, anticipate, initiate, persist, and demonstrate realisation in their learning. This approach supports development across four key areas of need: Communication and Interaction, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Cognition and Learning, and Physical and Sensory.

Learning experiences are carefully planned to be meaningful and engaging, encouraging children to take an active role, make choices, and grow in confidence as they explore and connect with the world around them.

Pathway Two - The Stepping Stones Curriculum

Our Pathway Two curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and is enhanced with specialist support from Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and other therapies. It is designed to help children develop across the four key areas of learning: Communication and Interaction, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Cognition and Learning, and Physical and Sensory.

Activities are hands-on, engaging, and tailored to each child’s needs, helping them explore, learn, and grow with confidence. By celebrating progress in small but important steps, this pathway gives children a strong foundation for future learning, independence, and life beyond school.

Pathway Three - The Footprints Curriculum

Our Pathway Three curriculum is designed to help children develop essential life skills and build positive relationships with others, while preparing them for later life. It focuses on the four key areas of learning: Communication and Interaction, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Cognition and Learning, and Physical and Sensory.

Through practical, real-life activities, children learn to become more independent, make decisions, and take responsibility for themselves and their surroundings. They are supported to practice skills, explore new experiences, and grow in confidence, helping them build a strong foundation for future learning, work, and life beyond school.

Pathway Four - The National Curriculum

Our Pathway Four curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and is designed to provide a rich and meaningful education that meets the needs of every child. It focuses on helping children develop key knowledge, skills, and understanding across a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, Humanities, and the Arts.

Learning experiences are carefully planned to be challenging, engaging, and relevant, encouraging children to take responsibility for their learning, think critically, and apply their knowledge in real-life contexts. This pathway also supports the development of independence, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, helping children gain the confidence and abilities they need to thrive in their next stage of learning and prepare for the future.
